The first Ram truck rolled out of the factory in 2010 – but the brand can trace its roots back to a time almost eight decades earlier when its parent company, Dodge, began using the iconic logo.
The famous American automaker started producing pickups in 1981. The Dodge Ram D (two-wheel drive) and W (4×4) hit the road in that year; and, during the ’80s and ’90s, designers came up with new elements to propel the line forward, including the now-popular quad-cab layout.
Today, Ram serves as a specialized automaker, producing mid-size and heavy-duty V6 and V8-powered vehicles as part of the Stellantis line. These rides are known for their towing capacity, durable-but-comfortable interiors, and work-related features (like the RamBox cargo management system).
Ram Vehicles Currently Available in Alberta, Canada
Ram currently offers trucks and work vehicles in Alberta – ranging from the consumer and light-commercial-oriented Ram 1500 to the heavy-duty 3500 to the customisable 5500 chassis.
Here is a closer look at the Rams available in Alberta.
The Ram 1500 is a mid-size pickup that offers two engine choices, work-focused features, and impressive max towing and cargo capacity.
This truck comes with 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains and either a 3.6L V6 or 5.7L HEMI V8. These motors include the mild-hybrid eTorque system, which increases power. The 2021 1500 can tow up to 5,783 kg and haul 1,043 kg in its bed.
There are plenty of packages to choose from in 2021. The Ram 1500 has eight different trims and five additional Classic versions (without eTorque).
The Ram 2500 is a heavy-duty truck built for jobs requiring significant muscle.
The standard engine on this 4×4 is a 6.4L HEMI V8 that provides 410 horsepower. An optional 6.7L Cummins TurboDiesel produces an astonishing 850 lb.-ft of torque. With this setup, the Ram 2500 can pull 8,972 kg.
There are six trims available for the 2021 model year. Some of these packages have luxury extras, like heated seats and Alpine speakers, to elevate the highway experience.
The Ram 3500 is a heavy-duty pickup with impressive towing prowess and all the tools necessary for hard work or serious recreation.
This truck can pull up to 15,921 kg with the proper configuration, and its bed can handle a payload of 3,134 kg.
Where does this power come from? Like the 2500, the 3500 uses a 6.4L HEMI V8. A 6.7L Cummins TurboDiesel is available, and there is a third option: a 6.7L high-output (H/O) diesel that provides 1,000 lb.-ft of torque for semi-like hauling capabilities.
The Ram 5500 is a commercial truck chassis that owners can customize to meet their needs. The advantages this workhorse provides include a fuel capacity of 280L and an almost-unbreakable steel frame able to handle 50,000 PSI.
Even with its long list of top-notch work-related features, the Ram 5500 manages to remain comfortable and safe, thanks to options like heated leather seats and class-exclusive surround-view cameras.
The 5500 is extremely flexible, with two cab options and nine wheelbase configurations for the 2020 model year.
The Ram ProMaster is a versatile van with front-wheel drive and standard features (like a 180-amp alternator).
These commercial vehicles are flexible, with easily configurable interiors. The ProMaster also does a lot of little things right. It is best-in-class when it comes to turning radius, floor width, and interior height.
Finally, 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine accommodates every payload – delivering 280 HP to Alberta work-sites.
